The Lady Or LadyBoy Quiz - Can You Tell Which Is Which?
I think it was during my 4th visit to Thailand that my eyes were opened by a Thai friend of mine to the fact that many of the women that I had been ogling during my stay there were in fact men, or at least they were or had been once on some level. Like most travellers to Thailand prior to my visit I had heard all the jokes and jibes about watching out for ladyboys, and even prior to having ever considered my first visit to Thailand had heard all those stories (as I’m sure you have) concerning tourists or sailors who had met a girl in a bar, taken her back to his hotel only to be greeted by that little extra something that had left said tourist or sailor emotionally scarred for the rest of his life.
But the truth is that there is a very simple reason why I only began to notice just how many Ladyboys (or ‘Katoey’ as they are known in Thailand) there were frequently all around me on my 4thvisit, and even then only once I had been educated by a native, that reason is because many of them are extremely beautiful, often more so than the genuine ladies, and believe me calling other men beautiful is not something that I usually make a habit of (although since your asking, if I did have to bed another man it would probably be Brad Pitt).
But enough now about my barely suppressed latent homosexuality, and lets find out how you’d fare on the pull within Thailand’s notorious bars and clubs.

ReplyDeleteGood Grief!!! I only ended up with one right , and the number #5 and #1 that I believed was a woman was a man. I thought I had them right and boy was I wrong, that is nuts! Even as a woman I couldn't figure them out. :(
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is what I learnt in Thailand. Look at the feet, because the ladyboy's feet are the same size as a man's and Thai women's feet are tiny. That is seriously the only way.

ReplyDeleteThe ladyboys are gorgeous, but I guess they work hard at it. I live near Brighton in the UK where you often see transvestites about, but I'm afraid they're generally more Dame Edna look-alikes than competition for the ladyboys!
I had to really laugh, on a trip to Bangkok my husband (who comes from a farm community of only 315 people) had a ladyboy sit next to him and flirt with him and even kiss him. When he/she went to get him a drink my son and I explained to him why someone had an adams apple and what the deal was. My very macho conservative husband nearly passed out and kept trying to wash his lips for days afterwards because to quote him, "God knows what kind of disease I have now." She was beautiful and readily admited she was a ladyboy. Great post.

ReplyDeleteGood grief. I know how feminine looking the ladyboys are. When I started going through those pics, I played it safe: I assumed all of them are ladyboys EXCEPT number 5. There was no way she could be a ladyboy. She even looks like Japanese porn stars. I was genuinely shocked to know the truth. Amazing.

ReplyDeleteIt's pretty easy, actually. Don't even look at their faces, and how many feet can you see in those pictures? Look at their upper arms. Compare the differences between 5 (ladyboy) and 6 (lady). If a ladyboy has skinny arms, they just look skinny. The ladies pretty much always have some fullness there, and actually everywhere (like a pad of fat underneath the skin). So then if you add in no waist and hips with no curves, it's usually pretty apparent. And the only one I guessed wrong on was number five--> I looked at her flat hips and no waist instead of her arms! Number 8 doesn't have hands showing, but the face is just skinny, no plumpness.
